Julien Elementary School Emptied, Possible Bomb Threat

A Target shopping bag became “suspicious” after Julien Elementary office staff received a phone call where someone said “boom” and just hung up.

Shortly after the approximate 9:00am call, 640 students were evacuated across the street to the Turlock High School gymnasium. Any students that were attending Turlock High’s Summer School were evacuated also.

Turlock Police had Canal Drive blocked off between Berkeley Avenue and Johnson Road. Johnson Road was also blocked to the south just past the Village Fresh Shopping Center.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad came out.

The “suspicious” Target bag was x-rayed and found to contain only trash.

The situation was under control, cleared of any potential safety hazard, and Canal Drive was opened back up at around 11:45am.
