Colin Kaepernick played perhaps the worst game of his young career Sunday night, as the San Francisco 49ers (1-1) fell to the Seattle Seahawks(2-0) 29-3.
A week after chalking up 412 yards passing, Kaepernick, a Pitman High graduate and the quarterback of the 49ers, had just 127 yards on 13 of 28 passing. Kaepernick also ran for 89 yards.
But it was Kap's turnovers that killed San Francisco's chances in Seattle. Kapernick threw three interceptions, and fumbled once.
“We're not going to win games if I play like that,” Kaepernick said.
For the second week in a row, the 49ers could not get their ground game working, either. Running back Frank Gore had just 16 yards on nine carries; a week ago, he had 44 yards on 21 carries.
According to the Associated Press, Sunday's game marked the third time since 1979 that the 49ers have had five turnovers and no touchdowns in a game. San Francisco did not turn the ball over in week one, playing against the Green Bay Packers.
Playing in Seattle is always a challenge, due to the Seahawk's incredibly loud fan base. The record crowd of 68,338 fans broke a Guinness World Record for the loudest stadium on Sunday, hitting 136.6 decibels; permanent hearing loss can occur with even short-term exposure to 140 decibel sounds, roughly the volume of a jet engine at 100 feet.
The game also took an odd twist when play was stopped for an hour in the first quarter, due to the threat of lightning.
The 49ers will return home to the friendlier confines of Candlestick Park on Sunday, when they will face the slow-starting Indianapolis Colts (1-1).
