Larry Michael Sabo, Jr. Obituary

Larry Michael Sabo, Jr.

February 7, 1968 – July 9, 2022

Larry Michael Sabo, Jr., our favorite fisherman, cast his line one final time on July 9, 2022 at the age of 54 in Las Vegas, Nevada as a result of an intracranial hemorrhage. Beloved by so many, he passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Larry was born on February 7, 1968 in Modesto, CA to Larry Sr. and Susan (Taylor) Sabo. Despite the painful, early loss of his father in the Vietnam War, Larry was raised awashed with love. He was especially close with his grandparents, Bert and Mildred (Bailey) Taylor, who instilled in him a lifelong love for fishing. A bright and energetic student with a photographic memory and penchant for story-telling, Larry graduated from Hughson High School in 1986 and followed in his father’s footsteps by enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he was later stationed in Germany. He then worked a variety of manufacturing jobs over the years, never settling in any one place long.
Larry was a restless adventurer, his travels taking him across California and beyond. At various points, he resided in Missouri, Texas, Kentucky, Florida, and Alabama before finding his Mayberry in Mesquite, Nevada earlier this year. At the time of his passing, Larry worked in engineering at Mesquite Gaming, commuting on his Harley-Davidson. Never left behind, his faithful partner-in-crime, Bonnie, a 10 year old terrier, rode along in a kangaroo pouch. A proud rockhound, it was Larry’s dream to pursue a career in geology, and many of his loved ones have non-descript stones that were his signature gift. Larry loved life deeply, cherishing every new day as a gift and greeting everyone, including strangers, with a smile that never faded.
With his superpower of being able to befriend anyone, a complete list of those who will miss Larry would go on forever. His loss is especially felt by his parents, Joe and Susan (Taylor) Perry of Turlock; his children, Ashley McCartney (Steven) of Florida, Franklin (Alexa) of Kentucky, and Kevin of Elk Grove; his siblings David Perry (Herlinda) of Turlock and Jennifer Gaydos (Patrick) of Aliso Viejo; his three grandchildren, Ivy and Iris of Kentucky and Mila of Florida; his three nieces, Lexy and Sydney of Aliso Viejo and Camille of Turlock; and his friend, Debby Salo of Nevada, who sat by his side for nearly three weeks before his passing. Larry joins in eternal paradise his father, Larry Sr., as well as his grandson, Landon.
A celebration in honor of Larry’s life will be held at Allen Mortuary in Turlock on August 13, 2022 beginning at 1pm. To follow, the family is hosting a reception at the Carnegie Arts Center where we hope to hear your fondest memories of our beloved Larry.
