Local Roller Derby Team’s Season Starts Saturday

Get ready for mayhem with skates and ponytails – the Sintral Valley Derby Girls are about to begin their roller derby season.

“I'm pretty excited about this season to see how our team has progressed,” said Christen Broussard, also known as Carly Chaos, the Vice President of SVDG.

Broussard said that the team picked up quite a few new skaters from try-outs held earlier in the year.

“I'm most excited to welcome these ladies, gentleman and kids to our family,” said Broussard.

“Seeing them progress so quickly from just putting on skates to being able to bout is amazing.”

Games are usually about an hour and a half long. When considering that there are usually double-headers, events can run up to four hours long.

“The games are always entertaining whether they are well balanced or not,” said Broussard. “This particular game [Mar. 1] is actually well-matched. It's one of our other local teams from Merced.”

The Sintral Valley Derby Girls field two teams, the Innocents and the Sinners, and a junior team known as the Motown Misfits. They play home games at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, 900 N. Broadway, Turlock, Building E-1, on the following Saturdays:

Mar. 1 –
Innocents vs. Merced Rollin' Roulettes
Motown Misfits (Junior team) vs. Bakersfield Diamond City Minors

Apr. 19 –
Sinners vs. Cal Skate Roller Derby
Motown Misfits vs. Hollister Junior Roller Derby

Jun. 7 –
Sinners vs. High Country Mountain Derby Girls
Innocents vs. Hanford Hooligans

Aug. 23 –
Sinners vs. Hidden City
Innocents vs. Hidden City

Food, beer, vendors and raffles will be available at the games, and the doors will open at 5 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased at SINVDG.com for $10 presale, or $15 at the door.
