Turlock’s federal, state, and local representatives will come together on May 7 for the Fourth Annual Government Night, allowing constituents a chance to ask officials key questions in a town hall-style setting.
Stanislaus County Supervisor Vito Chiesa, who represents Turlock in District 2, is organizing the event.
“Government nights like these have helped make it easier for elected officials and the community to come together,” said Chiesa. “People have questions and concerns and here we can help them face-to-face. It’s a great opportunity to get direct answers from your elected officials.”
Joining Chiesa are U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock), State Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte), State Assemblymember Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto), and Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth. Each will provide a few minutes of statements, and then will answer audience questions.
“I confer regularly with Congressman Denham, Senator Berryhill, Assemblymember Olsen and Mayor Soiseth,” said Chiesa. “We discuss the issues of our area and work collectively to find solutions to the challenges we face. We have a strong working relationship between the layers of government here in Turlock. I want people to see that work in action and be part of the process.”
Chiesa has been working aggressively to bring more accountability to local government, with a greater focus on budget reform. Denham believes it is important for representatives to engage with constituents and figure out ways to address key issues at all level of government.
“I applaud Supervisor Chiesa for holding Government Night again this year,” said Denham. “This is an important opportunity for local residents to engage with their elected officials at all levels of government. I look forward to discussing ways to address our ongoing drought on the Federal and State levels, how we can work together to rein in out-of-control government spending and finding solutions to help create jobs in the Central Valley.”
Government night will held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 7 in the Mary Stuart Rogers (MSR) Building Room 130.
