On Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, at 1:36 pm, Turlock Police detectives were conducting follow-up investigation in a larceny case involving an elderly victim when they arrested Catrina Moreno, 42, of Modesto.

Prior to Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, the victim in the case was looking for a maid service online when she came across an advertisement for Maid2Clean, Moreno’s business. The victim contacted Moreno and the two agreed upon a price to clean the victim’s Turlock home. Moreno began her work on Wednesday, August 24th.

On Sunday, August 28th, the victim discovered that multiple jewelry items valued at over $14,000 were missing from her home. The victim confirmed that Moreno had been the only other person in her home since the cleaning.

Detectives were able to access a database that tracks items that have been sold or pawned, and discovered that Moreno had recently sold some jewelry. Several of those pieces of jewelry were located and confirmed to belong to the victim in this case. Detectives also discovered that Moreno had sold other valuable items, not belonging to the victim in this case. Detectives believe that there are other people who have been victimized by Moreno.

Detectives also discovered that Maid2Clean was not a legitimately licensed business.

Moreno was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of violation of a provision of law proscribing theft, embezzlement, forgery, fraud, or identity theft by a person other than a caretaker of an elder or dependent adult, grand theft, and defrauding another person by false representation or pretense.

“If you have been a victim of theft from your residence and have hired Moreno or Maid2Clean services, please contact your local law enforcement agency,” said Turlock Police Detective Matthew Ulrich. “It is possible that Moreno intentionally targeted elderly clients,” he continued.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Detective Matthew Ulrich at 209-668-6570.
