On Tuesday, June 13th, 2023, at 1:59 am, the Turlock Fire Department, Turlock Police Department, and Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit were dispatched to a reported structure fire at Las Palmas Estates, 1617 Colorado Ave, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found an American flag that had been set on fire in the kitchen area of the assisted living facility. Luckily, the fire had already been extinguished.

Officers began investigating and were told that one of the facility’s residents, Jamie Hoover, 62, of Modesto, had gotten upset at the facility and threatened to burn the place down. After Hoover made the threat, he reportedly attempted to carry it out by setting the American flag on fire. Luckily, others were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it caused any significant damage.

When confronted, Hoover confessed to his actions.

No injuries were reported.

Hoover was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of arson.
