Man arrested after brandishing cane and machete during argument Tuesday night

On Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, at 8:24 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported weapon offense that had just occurred at 250 D St, Turlock, after a man had brandished a machete during an argument.

When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the victim who told them that he and Alan Johnson, 49, of Turlock, had gotten into an argument. During the argument, Johnson had grabbed a cane and machete from his property and walked toward the victim. The victim felt threatened and believed that Johnson was going to harm him, so he grabbed a pole from his belongings to defend himself and create distance from Johnson. Johnson eventually calmed down and walked away from the victim.

Officers checking the area located Johnson nearby and detained him. The victim confirmed that Johnson was the suspect and placed him under citizen’s arrest.

When officers had their dispatcher run Johnson, they discovered that he had three local misdemeanor bench warrants for storing personal property on public property. Two were $250 ones and the third was a $21,555 one.

Johnson was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of exhibiting a deadly weapon other than a firearm in a rude or threatening manner, as well as his warrants.
