On Sunday, July 23rd, 2023, at 4:29 pm, a Turlock Police officer near Walmart, 2111 Fulkerth Rd, Turlock, observed three people in a suspicious vehicle, so he got out with them.
The officer made contact with and identified the three, including Gabriel Lara, 37, of Washington.
While the officer was speaking with Lara, he suddenly took off from the officer, running across Fulkerth Rd and making his way into a backyard by jumping a fence.
Lara then forced entry into two occupied homes in an attempt to evade officers, causing over $400 in damages.
Officers set up a perimeter and eventually spotted Lara running back across Fulkerth Rd towards Walmart.
With the help of a bystander, Lara was caught in the Walmart parking lot.
Lara admitted to swallowing fentanyl and had to be transported to a local hospital for medical clearance.
Afterwards, Lara was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of vandalism, obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty, and aggravated trespass.
