Man arrested after firing shots in the air in busy downtown early Sunday morning

On Sunday, January 9th, 2022, at 1:38 am, a Turlock Police officer near La Cantina, 142 S First St, Turlock, heard sounds of several gunshots coming from the area. He responded to the business and was flagged down by witnesses who pointed out the responsible vehicle leaving the area northbound on S First St.

He and other officers got behind the vehicle and initiated a high risk stop on it, detaining a driver and passenger at gunpoint. The passenger, identified as Jesus Padilla-Rodriguez, 32, of Turlock, was determined to be the shooter.

Throughout the course of their investigation, officers discovered that Padilla-Rodriguez had fired off several shots into the air near the business, however, not at the business or anyone in the area. The driver was determined to not be involved in the actual shooting.

No injuries were reported.

Padilla-Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on unknown charges.
