At about 12:32pm Saturday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a battery that had just occurred at DoubleTime in the 100 block of N. Tully Road.

The caller was a witness who stated that the suspect had fled the scene and the victim was inside the store bleeding from the face.

Units arrived on scene and contacted the victim, an elderly man. He was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.

Through the investigation, the suspect was identified as Anthony Castillo, 36, of Turlock.

It was discovered that the victim was walking into the store when he was approached by Castillo, who asked the victim if he’d served in the military. The victim stated he had and for no apparent reason, Castillo punched him, knocking him out.

Castillo had fled the scene but was spotted by officers in the area. Castillo initially fled officers and a perimeter was set up, but they were unable to locate him due to several homeless encampments in the area.

Officer Diaz wrote a probable cause declaration for Castillo, making him locally wanted.

Later that night, other officers located Castillo.

Castillo was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, elder abuse under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death, and battery inflicting serious bodily injury.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Diaz at 209-668-1200.
