At about 12:08am Saturday morning, Ceres Police Officer Pinon observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on State Route 99 near E. Hatch Road.

Pinon followed the vehicle for several miles as it reached speeds of nearly 100mph, so he attempted to stop it near E. Keyes Road.

The vehicle slowed to 70mph but failed to stop for Pinon, resulting in him initiating a pursuit.

As the vehicle entered Turlock, it took the W. Main Street exit and followed all traffic laws, stopping for red lights.

Turlock Police joined the pursuit, while the Stanislaus Sheriff’s helicopter got overhead to provide aerial support.

The vehicle turned southbound on S. Orange Street and eastbound on High Street, before stopping at S. Laurel Street.

A high-risk stop was conducted where the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Roberto Castro, 42, of Concord, was removed and detained at gunpoint.

Through the investigation, Concord was determined to have a suspended driver’s license due to a prior DUI conviction.

Concord was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of fleeing from a peace officer by vehicle and driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI conviction.
