Man arrested after punching officer in in the face and causing injury Thursday morning

On Thursday, May 12th, 2022, at 10:57 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported assault and battery in progress at Bonander Truck & Trailer, 4520 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock, after a caller reported that a male was trying to strangle a female.

As officers began arriving on scene, they saw a subject riding away from the area on a bicycle who matched the description of their suspect. He was later identified as Charles Overturf, 40, of Turlock. Officers ordered that he stop, however, he refused. A pursuit of a bicycle ensued until Overturf eventually stopped in the parking lot of a nearby business.

Officers ordered Overturf to surrender, however, he refused to comply. Officers eventually went hands on with Overturf and grabbed ahold of him, however, he broke free and struck an officer in the face with a closed fist, causing an injury. Officers were eventually able to regain control and take him into custody with minimal use of force.

The original victim was contacted, however, she denied the allegations that were made against Overturf and refused to cooperate in the investigation any further.

The officer who was struck in the face by Overturf received treatment for his injury and returned to work immediately.

Overturf was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of resisting an executive officer with violence, battery against a peace officer in the performance of their duties, resisting a peace officer, and violation of parole.
