Man arrested after recklessly starting warming fire Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at 8:30 am, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported potential structure fire at one of the old Jura’s Pizza Parlor locations, 309 N Center St, Turlock, after several people had called in to report that there was gray and black smoke coming from the building.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a small fire inside the already almost burned down that had been started as a warming fire but had spread to the actual building. Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out and keep it contained to the building.

Inside the building, firefighters also found Jesse Gil, 53, of Turlock, who had started the fire. The Turlock Police Department was requested to respond to conduct an investigation.

After the investigation, Gil was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of unlawfully causing a fire and trespassing.
