Man arrested after robbing disabled victim of walking cane Tuesday afternoon

On Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, at 4:23 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported robbery that had just occurred at Planet Fitness, 1360 W Main St, Turlock, after a man had hit a disabled victim and forcefully taken his walking cane.

When officers arrived on scene, they contacted the victim who gave them a good suspect description and stated that he knew the suspect’s first name was Michael.

Officers began searching the area and eventually located a man matching the suspect description with a walking cane at Columbia Park.

Officers contacted the man and identified him as Michael Marcrum, 43, of Turlock. When officers had their dispatcher run Marcrum, they discovered that he was on probation and parole and had several different bench warrants. The first two were $1,000 misdemeanor ones out of Stanislaus County for trespassing, the third was a $25,000 local misdemeanor one for battery, the fourth and fifth were $25,000 local misdemeanor ones for contempt of court, and the fifth was a no-bail felony one for violation of parole.

The victim’s cane was recovered and returned to him. He was also able to identify Marcum as the suspect through a photo.

Marcrum was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of robbery, as well as his warrants.
