At about 11:24am Wednesday morning, Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense in progress at the Turlock Memorial Park in the 500 block of N. Soderquist Road.

The caller, who was an armed security guard at the park, reported that there was a man who had fired off several rounds into the air. He then reported that the man had gotten into a silver Hyundai SUV and was leaving the park.

Officers arrived in the area and observed the vehicle as it left the park, stopping it just down the road.

A high-risk stop was conducted where Emmanuel Yacoub, 69, of Modesto, was removed from the vehicle at gunpoint and detained in handcuffs.

Officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle based on the information given by the caller and located a handgun.

Through the investigation, it was discovered that Yacoub had been attending a funeral and there were several bystanders near him at the time he fired off the rounds.

Yacoub was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner which could result in injury or death.

Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy was briefly placed on lockdown during the incident due to its proximity to it. Staff and students remained safe.
