Man arrested for attempted murder after stabbing victim during fight over disagreement Monday afternoon

On Monday, July 11th, 2022, at 12:40 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported assault and battery in progress in the 500 block of Castor St, Turlock.

As officers were responding, dispatch received a call from a woman stating that she had the victim in her vehicle and that she was transporting him to the hospital because he had been stabbed.

While the victim was being transported to the hospital, an officer came across the vehicle he was being transported in and was flagged down at the intersection of Marshall St and S Golden State Blvd. The Turlock Fire Department and American Medical Response responded. The victim was ultimately ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital with a moderate potentially life threatening injury.

Prior to being transported to the hospital, the victim told officers that Kenneth James Shipman, 39, of Turlock, was the one who had stabbed him and that the incident was a result of a disagreement between the two. The victim also told officers the general area of where Shipman lived and a perimeter was established in the area after an officer briefly spotted him while checking it.

The Turlock Police Department’s newly formed Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team assisted in the perimeter with the use of their drones, as well as the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office’s Air Support Unit.

Shipman was eventually located after officers discovered that he had fled his residence and had been unknowingly hiding inside of a neighboring residence. He was arrested after exiting the residence about an hour after he was initially spotted.

Detectives took over the investigation and served a search warrant at Shipman’s residence to look for evidence associated with the crime.

Ultimately, Shipman was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted murder.

“The safety of our community is our number one priority,” said Turlock Police Detective Raul Garcia. “We want to thank our law enforcement partners who assisted in the apprehension of this individual,” he continued.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Detective Raul Garcia at 209-664-7314.
