On Thursday, September 29th, 2022, at 3:40 am, the Turlock Police Department and Stanislaus State Police Department were dispatched to a reported residential burglary in progress at a residence in the 4300 block of Bellevue Ct, Turlock.

Officers arrived on scene and found the suspect, Joshuas Cotta, 37, of Turlock, outside of the residence with the homeowners. He was immediately detained in handcuffs for further investigation.

Officers began investigating and learned that Cotta had entered the residence through an unlocked front window after removing its screen. Once inside, Cotta began moving things around, however, did not take anything. Cotta is believed to have been inside for at least an hour, with one of the homeowners asleep in their room. He was discovered when the other homeowner arrived home from work.

When questioned, Cotta stated that he believed the home was his, however, had no answer as to why he entered through a window rather than the front door.

Cotta was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of burglary.
