At about 12:38am Tuesday, Turlock Police responded to a trespass in progress at a residence in the 1000 block of Edwards Drive.
The caller stated they were watching a live surveillance feed and saw someone with a flashlight taking items from the residence which was under construction.
Officers arrived at the residence and checked it, but didn’t find anybody inside.
The caller then called back and stated he saw the same man riding a bicycle westbound on E. Canal Drive.
Officer Ayala was able to catch up to the man and stop him in the 1200 block of E. Canal Drive.
The man dropped a toolbox he was carrying, containing the stolen property.
After contacting the man, he identified himself as Oscar Vasquez, 30, of Turlock.
Officer Nwando arrived at the stop to continue his investigation and contacted the caller.
Vasquez was arrested and a search incident to arrest led to the discovery of a canister and drug paraphernalia.
Ayala sprayed the canister on the ground, irritating him indicating tear gas was present.
Vasquez, who was seated in the back of a patrol vehicle away from the tear gas, stated he was having difficulty breathing so Turlock Fire and American Medical Response responded to check him out.
After running Vasquez’s rap, he was discovered to be a convicted felon. Vasquez had also recently gotten off of parole for domestic violence inflicting corporal injury.
Vasquez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of burglary, possession of a tear gas weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The stolen property was photo-released to the caller.
