Man arrested for felony DUI after causing rollover collision and injuring children early Sunday morning

On Sunday, March 19th, 2023, at 1:13 am, the California Highway Patrol, Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries southbound State Route 99 just north of W Main St, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first one was a silver 2008 Saturn Outlook and the second one was a maroon 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. The maroon Tahoe had rolled over and was on its roof. Its driver, who who was later identified as Adrian Amaya, 27, of Atwater, had been ejected and was laying in the middle of N Walnut Rd next to the freeway.

A total of three people were injured, Amaya and two children. Amaya suffered a moderate head injury and was air transported by PHI Air Medical Services to a local hospital. The two children suffered minor injuries and were ground transported by American Medical Response to local hospitals.

The silver Outlook sustained moderate damage, while the maroon Tahoe sustained major damage.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred, however, the California Highway Patrol arrested Amaya for driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury to another person, and then released him to the hospital for treatment.
