Man arrested on federal felony warrant for weapon charge during bicycle stop Sunday evening

On Sunday, July 23rd, 2023, at 7:00 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of Wayside Dr and N Denair Ave, Turlock, observed a man riding a bicycle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a bicycle stop on him.

The officer made contact with and identified the bicyclist as Steven McThay, 35, of Salida.

When the officer had his dispatcher run McThay, he discovered that he had a $1,050 local misdemeanor bench warrant for possession of more than 28.5 grams of cannabis or eight grams of concentrated cannabis and driving without a valid driver’s license, as well as a no-bail felony bench warrant out of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for a weapon charge.

McThay was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrants.
