At about 7:27pm Thursday evening, Officer De La Cruz observed a driver near W. Hawkeye Avenue and Donnelley Park Drive violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on him.
De La Cruz made contact with and identified the driver of the vehicle as Daniel Smith, 35, of Modesto.
When De La Cruz had his dispatcher run Smith, he discovered that he had a $60,000 felony warrant out of Stanislaus County for auto theft, buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, grand theft, and buying or receiving stolen property.
The twist to this story is that the warrant was issued back in 2007, making it a year older than the vehicle that Smith was in.
Smith was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.
