On Wednesday, October 19th, 2022, at 2:51 am, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of E Hawkeye Ave and Waring Rd, Turlock, observed a vehicle violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on it.

The officer made contact with the vehicle’s two occupants, including driver Luis Yanez, 26, of Denair. Yanez originally lied about his name, however, his identity was discovered shortly thereafter.

When the officer had his dispatcher run Yanez, he returned with three bench warrants. The first one was a $100,500 felony one out of Stanislaus County for domestic violence inflicting corporal injury, the second one was a $50,000 felony one out of Modesto for possession of methamphetamines for sale, and the third one was a no bail local misdemeanor one for driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.

A subsequent search of Yanez’s vehicle led to the discovery of narcotics which appeared to be for sale as well as a handgun with an extended magazine.

Yanez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded and operable firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of methamphetamines for sale, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity magazine, as well as his warrants.
