At about 8:46pm Saturday, Turlock Police responded to a suspicious person at Ross Dress for Less in the 2400 block of Geer Road.
The caller reported a man was acting skittish and had a knife tucked in his back pocket with a sheath around it, about three inches long. He hadn’t taken out the knife but the caller thought he was just looking around at items and not actually shopping.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted the man, Joseph Yonan, 35, of Turlock. He was determined to have a $5,500 local misdemeanor bench warrant for possession of methamphetamines.
While speaking with Yonan, coincidentally another man who was unrelated to him ran out of the store with some unpaid-for merchandise. Two officers stood by with Yonan, while two others went to stop him.
The second man was stopped in the parking lot, contacted, and identified as Daniel Miller, 40, of Turlock. He was on searchable probation for shoplifting.
After speaking with the business, they didn’t want anyone arrested for anything; they just wanted Yonan and Miller trespass-admonished.
Both were trespass-admonished and Miller was released from detention.
Yonan was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.
