On Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, at 3:54 pm, Turlock Police officers near the Venice Motel, 1114 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock, noticed a man who they knew had a warrant drive into the parking lot, so they made a traffic stop on him.
The officers made contact with the man, Daniel Sossamon, 41, of Turlock, as well as his female passenger. Sossamon was detained in handcuffs.
When the officers had their dispatcher run the man to confirm the warrant, he returned with a $5,000 local misdemeanor warrant of arrest for possession of a controlled substance and driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
Sossamon was arrested and a search of his vehicle was conducted incident to arrest. During the search, officers discovered a loaded .45 caliber Ruger P345 handgun that had been reported stolen out of South Carolina, over 1,000 illegal pills, and half a pound of methamphetamines, as well as a large amount of cash in several different denominations and three phones, all consistent with drug sales.
Sossamon was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded and operable firearm, possession of methamphetamines for sale, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transporting or selling methamphetamines, transporting or selling a controlled substance, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, carrying a concealed firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm, as well as his warrant.
