At about 2:58am Tuesday morning, Turlock Police responded to a burglary in progress at Mid Valley Pawn in the 200 block of W. Main Street.

The caller had reported that he’d seen someone inside the business on a live surveillance feed before the suspect disconnected it.

Officers arrived on scene a few minutes later and found that the suspect had made entry through the roof and that all the doors were locked.

The business was cleared and no one was found inside.

A short time later, at 4:29am, Officer Ward got out with a man later identified as Derek Gaspar, 34, of Turlock, at Amar Beer, Wine, & Gas in the 1500 block of East Avenue.

Gaspar was identified and discovered to be on probation for burglary, although there wasn’t quite enough to make an arrest yet, so he was released.

Less than half an hour later, at 4:57am, Officer Ward stopped Gaspar again on his bicycle at S. Berkeley Avenue and Romeo Lane.

This time though, through surveillance video, Gaspar was able to be identified as the suspect.

Gaspar was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of burglary.
