Man attempts to carjack woman, stopped by good Samaritans

On Tuesday, August 25th, 2020, at approximately 11:45 am, the Turlock Police Department received a call of a subject who was attempting to steal a car but was interrupted at the Safeway located at 3051 Countryside Dr. While dispatch was speaking with the reporting party and gathering information, it was determined that it was actually an attempted carjacking. Due to the priority of the call, this caused all units to leave their current calls to respond to this one.

An Animal Services Officer who was in the area heard the radio traffic and located the suspect. She was able to provide officers with his description and whereabouts which ultimately lead to him being captured. During the investigation, it was discovered that he had gotten into the vehicle with the victim inside. When the victim told him to get out, he said he would kill her and then took off running after good Samaritans helped out.

The suspect, who was later identified as Jesse Thacker, 37, of Modesto, was arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted carjacking.
