Man dies after second downtown shooting within 24 hours early Sunday morning

On Sunday, January 15th, 2023, at 1:38 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported aggravated assault that had just occurred behind The Udder Place, 110 W Main St, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they found bystanders providing aid to a man who was down on the ground suffering from several gunshot wounds. They assisted the bystanders until being relieved by firefighters and paramedics a few minutes later.

The victim was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at 2:16 am, shortly after his arrival. His identity has yet to be released, however, witnesses were circulating information that he was an off-duty security guard who worked at The Grand Cru.

The parking lot behind the bars in the 100 block of W Main St and S First St between W Main St and A St were closed for several hours while detectives were called out to process the scene’s dozens of pieces of evidence and interview witnesses. The department’s Special Investigations Unit and Major Accident Investigations Team also responded to assist.

No suspect information has been made available at this point and it’s unclear whether or not this homicide is related to the one early Saturday morning.
