At about 10:35pm Friday, Turlock Police responded to a city ordinance violation at Broadway Park in the 500 block of N. Broadway.
It was reported that people were sleeping in the park after hours.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted two men, including Kevin Lutes, 35, of Turlock.
When Officer Gallup had his dispatcher run Lutes, he discovered he had a no-bail misdemeanor bench warrant out of Merced County for contempt of court.
Lutes was arrested and a search incident to arrest led to the discovery of a concealed but unloaded handgun in one of his bags. The gun was unserialized.
Despite the gun being at the very top of one of Lutes’ bags, he stated he had no idea how it ended up there.
Lutes was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and his warrant.
The gun was booked into evidence.
Even though Lutes’ warrant was a no-bail, Merced County still wanted him cited out on it. Lutes later posted bail for the gun charge and was released from custody.
