Man kidnapped and carjacked at gunpoint, forced to withdraw money from ATM

On Thursday, October 1st, 2020, at approximately 6:00 pm, the Turlock Police Department received a call from a male reporting that he was just kidnapped and carjacked at gunpoint at the Venice Motel located at 1114 N Golden State Blvd. Officers began responding to the call and arrived within minutes.

When officers arrived, they were met by the victim. The victim reported to officers that a male had forced his way into his room armed with a handgun. The victim said that the suspect assaulted him and took some of his personal property. The victim then said that the suspect forced him to drive his vehicle to an ATM and get money from his account. The victim complied, but was unsuccessful in withdrawing the funds from the ATM. The suspect then forced the victim out of his vehicle and drove off.

The victim sustained a minor non-life threatening injury during the assault. The victim knew the suspect as well as a female accomplice who was with him and provided their names to officer. He identified the male as Zachary Day, 31, of Turlock, and the female as Layla Arnold, 31, of Turlock.

Arnold was located by officers a short time later at Parkside Apartments located at 381 W Hawkeye Ave where she was arrested without further incident and booked into Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of conspiracy and possession of stolen property.

Day was later located in Modesto where he was arrested without further incident and booked into Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of home invasion robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, carjacking, as well as other cases that he had warrants out for.
