Man on parole for aggravated assault arrested after randomly hitting man with large stick Thursday evening

On Thursday, July 14th, 2022, at 7:32 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported aggravated assault that had just occurred at Motel 6, 250 S Walnut Rd, Turlock, after a man had just hit another man with a large stick for no apparent reason.

Officers arrived in the area and met with the victim who told them that the suspect, later identified as Kent Lofton, 37, of Illinois, had fled the area southbound on foot. The victim provided officers with Lofton’s description and he was located just down the road near the railroad tracks.

Officers made contact with Lofton and asked him about what had happened, however, he denied all allegations.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that Lofton was on parole for assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. His parole agent was contacted and a hold was placed, pending a parole revocation hearing.

Lofton was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and violation of parole.
