At about 6:02pm Saturday, Turlock Police responded to a disturbance in progress at a residence in the 1100 block of Amberwood Lane.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a large fight in the front yard involving about 10 people.

One of the men involved in the fight had a stab wound, while the other had injuries to his head. The man with the head injuries was detained in handcuffs as he was armed with a knife and suspected of stabbing the other man.

Officers separated all parties and provided medical aid until being relieved by Turlock Fire and American Medical Response.

The man with the stab wound was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed that the incident started when a woman who lived at the residence called over her family members to kick her boyfriend out.

When the family members arrived, they began picking objects up off the ground to use as weapons, including a rock that was found thrown all the way across the street from the home in the gutter. That’s when the boyfriend, who was originally detained by police, armed himself with a knife and stabbed the other man in self-defense.

Being that he acted in self-defense, the boyfriend was released from detention.

Follow-up will be conducted and the report will be submitted to the district attorney’s office for a criminal review, listing one of the family members that were called over as the dominant aggressor.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Aziz at 209-668-1200.
