On Tuesday, July 27th, 2021, at 4:03 am, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential working structure fire at a residence in the 1200 block of Payne Way, Turlock.

The first arriving unit, a battalion chief, arrived on scene to locate two vehicles in the driveway of the home fully involved with no extension to the home yet, however, requested that all structure fire resources continue in case it did extend to the home as no engines were on scene yet. The first arriving engine took a while to get there and came from across town as the engines on that side of town were already committed to medical aids. Once it did arrive on scene, its crew was quickly able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it without it extending to the home.

One person, a 20-year old male suffered non-life threatening burn injuries to his hands as a result of this incident. After being treated on scene by American Medical Response, he was airlifted to a burn center by CALSTAR Air Medical Services.

The Ceres Fire Department provided city coverage while this incident was on-going.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and remains under investigation. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209-669-2119.
