Man suspected of breaking several windows over two days arrested early Sunday morning

On Sunday, November 20th, 2022, at 3:24 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported vandalism that had just occurred at 112 W Main St, Turlock, after a man had been seen breaking two windows with a rock and running off.

Officers arrived in the area within minutes and began searching, finding a man later identified as Devin Cole, 31, of Modesto, hiding near the back entrance of Cuts Steakhouse, 142 W Main St. He was detained for further investigation.

Officers reviewed surveillance camera video and spoke with witnesses, which ultimately led to the confirmation that Cole was indeed the man who had broken the windows.

Officers began investigating a little further as several windows to homes and businesses had been broken over the course of the previous two days throughout town and discovered that one of the homes that had a window broken the previous morning was listed as one of Cole’s previous addresses on his driver’s license record. The incidents all occurred in a very similar fashion, with an unknown man on foot throwing rocks through windows and running away on foot prior to officers arriving. Two of the incidents had been mistaken for drive-by shootings, which resulted in all available officers responding and wasting resources that the city is already running thin on.

Cole was determined to be on parole for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, so his parole agent was contacted. The parole agent found that there was probable cause a violation of parole had occurred, so he authorized that Cole be placed on a hold while awaiting a parole revocation hearing.

Cole was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of vandalism and violation of parole.
