On Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, at 11:52 pm, a Turlock Police officer assisting on an unrelated traffic stop at 76 DoubleTime, 101 N Tully Rd, Turlock, noticed a wanted man, Juan Jesus Guzman, 19, of Turlock, which he recognized from a recent be on the lookout bulletin from the Merced Police Department getting into the passenger seat of a vehicle.

The driver began driving off and the officer followed the vehicle, conducting a high risk stop in the 300 block of West Ave S when other officers arrived in the area to assist.

Guzman as well as another man and a woman were removed from the vehicle at gunpoint and detained without further incident.

Guzman was booked into the Merced County Main Jail on his warrant.

Guzman’s warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred the prior week on Wednesday, June 29th, at Food 4 Less, 1115 W Olive Ave, Merced. At 8:26 pm that night, the Merced Police Department was dispatched to a reported aggravated assault that had just occurred at the business.

When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim, a 31 year old employee of the business, suffering from a stab wound. The victim told officers that while he was attempting to apprehend Guzman who had shoplifted from the business, Guzman got into a scuffle with him and stabbed him with a sharp object. Guzman then fled the area with two others in a blue sedan.

The victim suffered moderate injuries. He is currently in stable condition and expected to recover.
