Man Wearing Cowboy Boots Flees Police After Aggravated Assault

At about 1:55am Saturday, Turlock Police responded to an aggravated assault that had just occurred at Staley’s Club in the 400 block of E. Main Street.

A man later identified as Matthew Angel, 24, of Denair, had been drinking alcohol when he grabbed a glass cup and threw it at the bartender before leaving. The bartender was standing near Angel and facing away from him, and the cup barely missed his head.

Angel then left the bar but was located at W. Main Street and N. First Street by witnesses.

As Officer J. Arroyo arrived, Angel fled on foot in his cowboy boots. He was chased to across from the old Grand Cru where he was taken into custody.

Angel displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence.

Angel was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, resisting a peace officer, and disorderly conduct.
