On Sunday, October 30th, 2022, at 12:23 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported auto theft in progress in the 400 block of Wayside Dr, Turlock, after a man had been seen getting into and attempting to start a vehicle that had been parked there for a couple of months.

Officers arrived on scene and found the man, later identified as Steven Reed, 38, of Oklahoma, still in the vehicle which had visible damage to its locking mechanism and steering column.

Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle who lived nearby and they stated that they did not know Reed.

A search of Reed led to the discovery of property belonging to the victim that was left in the vehicle as well as drug paraphernalia.

Reed was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted auto theft, burglary, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
