Man with felony warrants arrested after two-hour standoff with deputies Tuesday afternoon

On Tuesday, October 18th, 2022, at 1:22 pm, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a reported residential burglary in progress at a residence in the 100 block of G St, Turlock.

When deputies arrived on scene, they saw a man later identified as Ramon Flores, 28, of Turlock, running away from the residence and into a homeless encampment a few houses away.

Deputies immediately established a perimeter and requested the assistance of the Turlock Police Department.

Deputies began making announcements ordering that Flores surrender, and Flores ran out of the homeless encampment and into the backyard of another residence, still within the perimeter. Flores was located under a tree in the backyard but refused to surrender, holding a knife to his throat saying that deputies would have to kill him.

Deputies at the scene began negotiations until the sheriff’s Hostage Negotiation Team arrived and took over.

During the negotiations, Flores continued holding a knife to his neck and expressing that he no longer wanted to live because of multiple problems occurring in his life. Flores was also seen smoking an unknown substance.

After over two hours of negotiations, Flores finally surrendered, however, not before taking something out of his pocket and putting it in his mouth.

Flores was arrested and made mention of ingesting fentanyl, so he was transported to a local hospital where he was medically cleared.

Afterwards, Flores was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as two warrants. The first one was a $100,500 felony one for possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and the second one was a no bail felony one for violation of post release community supervision, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, and flight from a peace officer with disregard to public safety.
