On Saturday, August 6th, 2022, at 8:38 am, a Turlock Police officer near the 300 block of Lane St, Turlock, noticed a man which he recognized as Josue Leyva, 27, of Turlock, and believed to have a warrant, so he had his dispatcher run him.

Sure enough, Leyva returned with a local felony $100,000 warrant for vehicular manslaughter, hit and run with injuries, and reckless driving causing a serious injury.

The officer made contact with Leyva and took him into custody without incident.

Leyva was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.

The warrant stemmed from the vehicle collision that had occurred on Sunday, November 8th, 2020 on Lander Ave just north of E Linwood Ave, Turlock, where the life of an 11 year old girl was taken and five others were injured.

Leyva was originally arrested the day following the incident, however, was released shortly thereafter since no charges were filed. On Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022, charges were filed and the warrant was issued for his arrest.
