Man with warrants arrested after running from officers and hiding in shed Friday night

On Friday, January 20th, 2023, at 11:17 pm, the Stanislaus State Police Department and Turlock Police Department were dispatched to a reported suspicious person at Housing & Residential Life, 1 University Cir, Turlock, after a man had been seen possibly smoking narcotics inside one of the dormitory buildings.

When officers arrived on scene, they found and made contact with a man later identified as Yishmael Yisrael, 22, of Stockton.

Yisrael gave officers a slightly different spelling of his name with his birthday being a year off, and officers had their dispatcher run it. The officers’ dispatcher was unable to locate a matching driver’s license record, however, his actual record hit due to the similarities. When the officers’ dispatcher ran that name and date of birth, Yisrael returned with two bench warrants. The first one was a $25,000 misdemeanor one out of Stanislaus State for battery, while the second one was a no-bail felony one out of San Joaquin County for burglary.

When officers confronted Yisrael about his warrants, he took off running from them.

Yisrael was originally able to get away, however, a Turlock Police Department drone was able to locate him running through an alleyway and into the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Hedstrom Rd.

Officers surrounded the residence and gave Yisrael several orders to surrender, which he ignored.

Officers eventually entered the backyard and located Yisrael hiding in a shed. He was arrested without further incident.

Yisrael was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty and falsely identifying to a peace officer, as well as his warrants.

According to Stanislaus State Police Department Captain Cheri Silveira, Yisrael is not a student there.
