At about 10:59pm Saturday night, Officer Marquez noticed a vehicle parked at Quik Stop in the 1200 block of Geer Road and recognized it as being associated with a parolee, so he got out with it.

The parolee, Deanna West, 53, of Modesto, eventually came out of the business and approached Marquez.

West was confirmed to be on parole for burglary, so a parole search of her vehicle was conducted. During the search, Marquez located two fixed-blade knives, which violated West’s parole terms.

When asked where she was staying, West stated that she and her boyfriend had been staying at The Venice Motel. West identified her boyfriend as Darvin Costa, 42, of Ceres.

Marquez had his dispatcher run Costa and discovered that he had a $10,000 felony warrant of arrest out of Stanislaus County for two counts of vandalism.

Marquez and an assisting officer went to The Venice Motel and attempted to contact Costa at the room West stated, however, there was no answer at the door. Marquez then spoke with an employee who stated that West was actually renting a different room.

Costa was located in the second room and detained.

During a subsequent parole search of the room, Marquez located methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia.

Marquez notified a parole agent of what had occurred and they authorized that a hold be placed on West while awaiting a parole revocation hearing.

West and Costa were both arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, West on charges of possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of parole, and Costa on his warrant.
