Motorcycle Thief Climbs Tree to Hide from Police

A male suspect on a stolen motorcycle nearly got away on Monday, but was ultimately arrested after climbing a tree to hide.

Volunteers in Police Services from the Turlock Police Department reported that a motorcycle that had been reported stolen was parked outside of a business on the 200 block of Glenwood Avenue at approximately 2:26 p.m. Monday.

Officers from the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force (StanCATT) responded, along with Turlock police, however the suspect fled on the motorcycle.

The suspect headed south out of Turlock with authorities attempting to catch him. Authorities eventually lose sight of the suspect in the area of Bradbury Road and Griffith Avenue.

Eventually, around 3:30 p.m. authorities found the motorcycle abandoned and clothing along the side of the road in the same area.

Officers were able to locate the suspect hiding in a tree and arrested him.

James Harris, 42, was arrested for auto theft.
