New Anchor Tenant for Turlock Town Center?

The embattled Turlock Town Center, located on Golden State Boulevard where Geer Road dead-ends, may soon be gaining a new anchor tenant.

The new anchor will assume the space previously occupied by Sears, as well as the adjacent space currently occupied by Goodwill, Turlock Assistant to the City Manager for Housing and Economic Development Maryn Pitt said. The identity of the anchor store is not known at this time, she said, but it is expected to open this fall.

That new tenant will also bring $1.8 million in improvements to the shopping center, Pitt said, modernizing the now-dated center.

The real estate firm responsible for managing the Turlock Town Center, Colliers International, said that no lease has yet been signed and declined further comment.

“There has been no agreement made thus far and at this time we are not permitted to comment on any prospective tenants for the property,” said Ben Rishwain, Senior Associate with Colliers International.

Rishwain said he hopes to “have more clarity” in a few months.

The Turlock Town Center was historically one of Turlock’s busiest shopping centers, anchored by an Albertson’s grocery store and a Rite-Aid pharmacy. The Albertson’s left, was replaced by a 99 Cents Only store, and other high-profile businesses soon departed as well. In recent years O’Reilly Auto Parts, Sears, Anchor Blue, and Fallas Discount Stores have all either moved from the shopping center or closed completely.
