New Comic Book Shop Opening in Downtown Turlock

Comic fans will no longer have to make the trip to Merced or Modesto to pick up the latest issue of “The Walking Dead.”

Spiderman and Fantastic Four artwork fills the windows of what will be Turlock’s first comic book store in five years, Sky High Comics.

Sky High Comics is expected to open its doors around April 1. Owner Raymond Hannagan is just waiting for the comics to arrive.

Hannagan wants to stock a little bit of everything in the store, including all of the newest comics. He is currently unsure about what exactly the store will be getting, but wants to work to stock “whatever people are looking for.”

Along with the newest issues of the most popular comics, Sky High Comics will be selling lots of back issues, artwork, statues and action figures in store.

Hannagan is currently unsure if his store will sell gaming cards, such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, or Yu-Gi-Oh cards (although people are able to play Magic: The Gathering Arena digitally and use mtg arena codes to get extra content).

Modesto currently has two comic books stores, Bonanza Books and Comics and Krier’s Cards and Comics, and Merced has one, Red Sky Comics. Merced also has a store which focuses on gaming cards, The Arcane Lab.

The lack of any other comic book shops between Modesto and Merced is the main reason for Turlock being chosen as the location of Sky High Comics, said Hannagan.

Sky High Comics will be the first comic book shop in Turlock since Owned! Comics and Cards, located near the Regal Turlock Stadium 14 movie theater, closed its doors in 2009.

Sky High Comics will be located at 120 W. Main St. in Downtown Turlock.
