Three new sites have been suggested for a proposed community bocce ball court, previously tabled by the Turlock Parks, Recreation and Community Commission after residents complained of an anticipated increase in noise and traffic.
Rotary Club representatives suggested Dale Pinkney Park, Bristol Park, Curt Andre Park, and the previously-vetoed Crane Park as possible locations for two club-funded bocce ball courts.
Dale Pinkney Park, located on Moonbeam Way near the corner of Taylor Road and Berkeley Avenue, is viewed as the best option by city staff. The park has ample open space, and is in a new area of town.
Bristol Park, located just off Tuolumne Road between Daubenberger Road and Quincy Road, was also viewed as a “reasonable” option.
The Rotary Club of Turlock originally proposed building two bocce ball courts in Crane Park. Neighbors opposed the project, arguing that Crane Park is already overused.
Turlock Rotary Club members will survey neighbors to gauge public opinion before another public hearing on the location is held.
“Before we set another public hearing they would make it sure it is somewhere that's feasible,” said Erik Schulze, Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Superintendent.
There is no set schedule for the project to move forward at this time.
