No Charges Filed Against Kaepernick in Miami Incident

The Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that no charges will be filed against San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick from the “suspicious incident” in April.

“The complainant's allegations in this matter have been thoroughly investigated,” said the closeout memo from Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office. “However, there is no evidence to indicate that she was the victim of any crime.”

There will also be no charges filed against 49ers receiver Quinton Patton or Seattle Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette.

The announcement closes a case that started out on a negative note, after TMZ reported that the Miami Police Department was investigating Kaepernick for a sexual assault.

"No charges, no indication that a criminal act was committed," said Ed Griffith of the State Attorney's Office to CSN Bay Area. "She was alleging that she may have been the victim of a sexual assault, and there was no evidence."

During the duration of the investigation, Kaepernick held firm in believing that the truth would eventually come out.

“I did nothing wrong in that incident,” Kaepernick said in a video on 49ers.com. “So I want to do everything I can to let the D.A. close this matter.”

Kaepernick also took to Twitter on Thursday following the announcement.

“As I said from day one, I would never do the things that were made up about me. I'm glad this issue is resolved. It's time for football,” Kaepernick Tweeted.

The 49ers supported Kaepernick during the investigation, as just over a week ago he signed a 6-year extension with the 49ers that could be worth up to $126 million.

First reports of the “suspicious incident” said that Kaepernick was with Patton and Lockette in Lockette’s Miami apartment on the night of April 1. On April 3 a woman reported that she had woken up in a Miami hospital without recollection of what occurred the night of April 1.

She alleged she had mixed drinks and smoked marijuana with the three NFL players, before lying down in a bed. She also alleged that Kaepernick began kissing and undressing her, before leaving the room. She could not remember anything after that.

It was later found that Lockette and a security guard had called 911 the night of the incident, asking to have a woman removed from Lockette’s apartment. The woman was taken to the hospital by emergency services.
