At about 10:25pm Wednesday, Turlock Police Officer Khounlivong made a traffic stop at Motel 6 in the 200 block of S. Walnut Road.

Khounlivong made contact with and identified the driver of the vehicle as Ronald Rodgers, 62, of Turlock.

When Khounlivong had his dispatcher run Rodgers, he discovered that he had a suspended driver’s license and two misdemeanor bench warrants. The first was a $1,020 local one for driving with a suspended license due to a DUI conviction, while the second was a $2,500 one out of Ripon for driving with a suspended license due to a DUI conviction, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to provide evidence of financial responsibility to a peace officer.

Rodgers was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

During a subsequent inventory search of Rodgers’ vehicle prior to it being towed, officers located a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun that was registered to someone other than Rodgers in a holster on a duty belt, as well as narcotics.

Turlock City News later reviewed online records for Rodgers, discovering that he’s a security guard with a suspended exposed firearm permit, according to the California Department of Consumer Affairs. We also found the owner of the gun in his Facebook friends.

Rodgers was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded and operable firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, driving with a suspended license due to a DUI conviction, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as his warrants.

Additionally, Rodgers’ vehicle was impounded.
