Officer and police motorcycle struck during high speed wrong-way pursuit Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, May 10th, 2022, at 6:55 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a security check at 76 DoubleTime, 101 N Tully Rd, Turlock, after a male subject had been seen slumped over behind the wheel of a black Nissan sedan in the parking lot of the gas station.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a matching vehicle occupied by one male subject who was awake. They made contact with him and believed that he was under the influence, so they asked him to open his door. The subject refused, so officers opened his door for him. The subject then began to drive in reverse, ignoring the officers’ orders to stop. He struck an officer, who was not injured, and a pole near the gas pumps, before ultimately fleeing westbound on W Main St.

A pursuit was initiated and the subject went northbound on State Route 99, before exiting eastbound onto Fulkerth Rd and then northbound in the southbound lanes of N Golden State Blvd. The pursuit was terminated near Pedras Rd, however, officers continued to trail the vehicle at a distance.

The vehicle was involved in another collision while crossing W Tuolumne Rd. Luckily, no one was injured. It obviously did not stop and continued, still northbound in the southbound lanes.

Officers continued following the vehicle into Keyes, where it pulled into the driveway of a residence, however, quickly backed out when it noticed officers were still trailing behind it. The subject then struck an unoccupied police motorcycle and nearly struck an officer standing near it in the 4200 block of Warda Ave.

The subject then fled towards Ceres, however, officers stopped trailing him as ordered to by their sergeant. He was involved in at least one other collision in the county.

Officers later located and recovered the vehicle in Ceres, however, the subject has yet to be identified or located.

The investigation remains on-going.
