At about 7:27pm Wednesday evening, Officer Lupe located a stolen vehicle at Central Park in the 100 block of S. Golden State Boulevard.

During some downtime between calls for service, Lupe had used the city’s new license plate readers to track down the vehicle.

A high-risk stop was conducted and the vehicle’s two occupants were detained in handcuffs at gunpoint.

The vehicle’s driver was identified as Ruben Rios, 34, of Turlock, who was discovered to have a no-bail felony warrant out of Manteca for grand theft, organized retail theft, and obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

Rios was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving or taking a vehicle without the consent of its owner and receiving a stolen vehicle, as well as his warrant.

The second detainee was released and the vehicle was returned to its rightful owner.
