Olsen Bill Offers Free Access to State Parks for Vets on Memorial, Veterans Day

California Assemblymember Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) is carrying AB150, which gives free access to state parks for honorably discharged veterans and active duty or reserve service members on Memorial and Veterans Days.

On June 25 the bill was passed by the Appropriations Committee and recommended for the consent calendar, were it will likely be voted into state public resource code regarding state parks.

"The brave men and women of California who currently serve and who have previously served our country by protecting our freedoms deserve special recognition. AB 150 is a small way to show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice, while giving them access to enjoy our state's beautiful natural resources on holidays intended to honor their service,” said Olsen.

Assemblymember Olsen’s great-uncle served in the military and was buried just two weeks ago in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.

The average day-use fee for state parks is $12. Veterans and Memorial Day are each the highest revenue generating days of the year for state parks.
